A project of national significance, CPC-TDS was set up in 2012 and dedicated to the nation on 23rd February 2013 by the then Finance Minister. It re-engineered India’s legacy tax deduction processes into an integrated, state-of-the-art platform — TRACES — serving over 40 million taxpayers, 1.5 million tax deductors, 5,000 government offices, and 500+ field officers of the Income Tax Department.
The Income Tax Department’s Business Process Reengineering study identified critical failures in the legacy TDS ecosystem:
2.45 billion transactionssent to ITRCPC (PAN domain) to validate income tax return filing — demonstrating the platform’s role as the backbone of India’s direct tax credit infrastructure.
